Automation in the footwear industry
Footwear manufacturing is quite dependent on the labor process as it has many delicate and inaccessible operations. This dependence does not prevent the use of automation devices in the industry. Various sensors installed on machines and work stations let the manager know of every product that is manufactured and each one that is rejected, as well as the reasons for frequent stoppages. The installation of a HMI including display and keyboard within each workstation allows a full interaction between operators and the data acquisition system, giving the manager the ability to make decisions with all of the information at hand. The combination of these field devices with the supervision software, along with the ease of wireless networks, permits the composition of historic records that are gold mines of productivity, from which managers can determine improvements and corrections to the production process. Finally, the availability of this data on the global network guarantees the most advanced mobility of data, with notifications of problems at the exact moment they happen no matter where the manager is accessing it.

Industrial Automation in Textile Finishing
